Tony’s penchant for racing yachts started in the 70’s and later his career as a independent Yacht Designer in 1980 with Frank Woods Justine III. She was the first and only yacht to win the One-ton cup with five straight victories. A few more World Championships followed..
As a former dinghy sailor and multiple ( Portuguese) National Champion, in Sharpie12, Vouga, Moth, Snipe and 420’s, his interest in small boats led to being asked to design the famous 1720 for the Royal Cork Yacht Club members. The 1720 was a successful racing yacht, with many of the 150 built, still actively racing today. Soon the idea of a new One-Design came along, easily trailered and raced with just three crew and the SB20 was born.
