The SB20 – International One design Sportsboat Racing of the highest calibre. Designed by Tony Castro and originally known as the Laser SB3, the SB20 has 700 boats in 22 nations worldwide.

2001   Tony Castro and Laser agree concept and design for the new Laser SB3. Prototypes built and testing starts.

2002   Production begins at White Formula in Brightlingsea. First boats appear at Cork Week and Cowes Week. First UK Nationals held with 14 boats atWarsash SC.

2003   Production moves after approx 55 boats to DK in Malaysia. UK Nationals in Falmouth with 35 boats. VW Touareg sponsor 4 boats atCowes Week, start of a very successful 5 year relationship.

2004   First SB3’s sold in France and Italy. First non-UK event at Brest regatta. All 50 entrants at Cowes Week receive free VW Touareg spinnakers, a concept repeated for next 4 years with fleets hitting 100 boats.

2005   First European Championships held at Riva del Garda, Italy. DK producing approx 100 boats per year, with boats selling in 12 countries.

2006   Fleets building in Italy, Portugal, France, Netherlands. European Championships in Crouesty, France.

2007   ISAF Class status approved. First ‘King of Cowes’ event, winner receiving brand new VW Touareg. Rapid expansion of Irish fleet. European Championships held at Weymouth, UK.

2008   First world championships held in Dublin with 137 boats. Fleets building in Australia, Singapore. Second King of Cowes event.

2009   World Championships held in Cascais, Portugal.

2010   110 boats at World Championships in Torbole, Lake Garda. New fleets building in Austria and Switzerland.

2011   105 boats atTorquay, UKworld championships. Fleets now in 20 countries with new fleets building in Russia.

2012   Total boats now over 650 in 20 countries. Sportsboat World takes over marketing and distribution of newly named SB20. Production moves back to White Formula in UK. World Championships to be held in Hamilton Island, Australia.
