As we all get ready for the Cascais Worlds at the end of August, there are teams on opposite ends of the world busy making preparations for the 2017 and 2018 Worlds in Cowes, England and Tasmania, Australia respectively.
The dates for Cowes are 26 August-1 September 2017, while for Tasmania the dates are 3-11 January 2018. Both should be classic venues, and real once in a lifetime opportunities, so start planning.
The Cowes team from the Royal Yacht Squadron will be in Cascais making a presentation, and answering any questions. I know a few people are worried that the waters will be very tidal and courses complicated! To set your minds at rest, the 2017 SB20 Worlds will be held on the usual windward-leeward format courses, and racing will take place on the Hill Head bank area, where the tides run much slower and are very easy to predict. We are also on hand to help with all your boat storage and launching logistics, accommodation questions and any visa questions. There will also be a series of regattas throughout the summer of 2017 for competitors to come early and have a few practice days.
Nick Rogers from Tasmania will be visiting the UK during Cowes Week this year to talk to the UK fleet about the Tasmania worlds, and I understand he may also be visiting St Petersburg to greet the Russian fleet, so start thinking about any questions you have for Nick.
