The UK SB20 fleet has released details of the next two seasons of racing, building up to the highly anticipated 2017 World Championships in Cowes, hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron.
For 2016 the UK Nationals return to the Royal Torbay YC in Torquay, from October 1-3. The popular pre-event Sprint Championships, sponsored by SportsboatWorld, will once again be held on the day before (September 30) for a day of fast and furious back-to-back races.
There’s a chance to get some pre-event practice at a Mini traveller Event the weekend before, also hosted by the Royal Torbay YC. New for this year, points will also be combined to form a UK Mini Series, with the National Championship results plus the best two of the Mini Traveller Series, Sprint Champs, or Hamble One-Design Championships at Hamble River SC in October counted.
Then for 2017 the racing calendar is jam-packed with opportunities for SB20 competition in the Solent, starting off with Frostbite and Spring Series racing, before the Vice Admiral’s Cup in May, Round the Island Race in June, UK Nationals and Sprint Championships, and Cowes Week in August.
The 2017 worlds competition kicks off with a warm-up day on August 27, before the World Championships themselves run for five days from August 28-September 1.
Before all that, we have this year’s European Grand Slam calendar to contend with, including a four-day UK competition over the first days of Cowes Week.
